Class Selections
Pati comes to us from Seneca, South Carolina. She is an avid basket collector of Native American and baskets from around the world. Juried baskets of her original designs are included in SC State Museum Palmetto Hands Fine Craft Traveling Exhibition, SC Arts Foundation Governor's Awards Arts Show, Clemson University Visual Arts Center and Discovery Centers in the southeast. Her baskets were featured in Basket Bits Magazine, Southern Living Magazine, appeared on RFDTV Making It Grow, and Southern Arts Federation. As Resident Artist, Pati has enjoyed 22 years designing, weaving and teaching.
We are most excited to have Pati English visit us. She will be teaching 3 classes a day for 3 days. To keep the day moving along smoothly, please bring a dish to share and beverages will be provided by the Guild.
Please list your class selections for each day in order of preference. If you can't weave on a certain day, please do not put any choices in that column. Remember to make a copy for your records.

Tote with a Twist
A sturdy tote basket woven with a combination of flat oval and round reed on a 5 x 10 slotted wood base. Horizontal bands of color in Three Rod Wale are bordered by Double Strand Braid Weave. These dyed round reed accents add lines and texture in your choice of two colors, photographed in cocoa brown and medium green. Finish this pretty tote with a cane Cable Stitch Border, dyed round reed rim filler, and a custom teardrop shaped handle wrapped with the Double Strand Cane Braid Technique.

Oval Bargello Basket
Begin with a 5x8 oval wood base, over and under weave with flat oval, then Three Rod Wale borders the center accent, Bargello design. With #2mm round reed in navy and wine, create the vertical rows of arrows with Three Rod Wale and Reverse Three Rod, (other color choices available). This basket was juried for the South State Museum Triennial Exhibition in Columbia, S.C. and for several state conventions.

8" Round Basket
A great beginner basket with woven round reed twined base and traditional over and under/start and stop weave. Select dyed reed accent weavers in ¼ flat oval or wide weavers and optional curls. Choose an 8 D handle, or learn how to make two add-in side handles of reed wrapped in medium chair cane for a comfortable handle grip. On registration form, please indicate your choices of:

Plaid Market Basket
Start with a woven base in two dyed accent colors with overlays in preparation for the plaid design. Traditional start and stop technique with dyed accent weavers in wide and narrow flat and flat oval reed. Choose two colors wine and navy as pictured or cocoa and green. Other colors available on request. The sturdy 8 x 12 D handle is wrapped with cane in the Double Strand Braid technique for a comfortable and decorative handle grip. A practical size basket to tote anywhere.

Breast Cancer & Yellow Ribbon Basket
Start with an oval 6x10 slotted wood base, Chase Weave secures spokes, then Double Four Rod Wale with dyed round reed. Emphasis is on shaping, along with spacing to allow ribbon accents. Finish with a hand shaped teardrop handle of round reed, flat oval, and cane, Double Strand Braid handle wrap and optional Interlocking V knot handle grip. Select in pink/rose or yellow accent to honor those serving in the military. Other color choices available. Dedicated to my mom in honor of her battle with breast cancer.

Cotton, Toy& Laundry Basket
This is a reproduction of an antique basket found at an estate sale. The Cotton Basket "hamper" is traditionally woven wider at the rim and narrower at the base. It serves as a laundry basket, toy storage, for quilts etc. Wide weavers alternate with bands of denim blue dyed accent weavers with overlays for an updated design. Other color choices available. This basket requires additional space for weavers to work.

Tall Tote Basket
Begin with alternating natural and dyed accent base spokes in hunter green or color of your choice. With a 6x14 tall D handle, weave a sturdy and decorative carryall tote. Wide braided seagrass adds texture or choose 1 ½ wide maple strip with cane overlay accent. Finish with triple strand cane braid handle wrap.

Rectangle Sampler Basket
The woven filled-in base with paired filler spokes and two leather handles provide for a practical tote and storage basket. This sampler is created with several techniques: French Randing, Three Rod Wale, Ti-Twining, Double Four Rod Wale, Braid Weave, and Cable Stitch border. Traditional start and stop flat weavers create a sturdy border between the sample of techniques in cocoa brown as pictured; leather handle color choices available are cocoa, natural, navy, or hunter green. This original basket design was juried by the South Carolina State Museum as part of the Palmetto Hands Traveling Art Exhibit to be displayed at museums and art centers around the state for the year 2008-2009.

Ti-Twine Market Basket
An 8 square/rectangle woven filled-in base has paired filler spokes and makes a handy market basket, great countertop, napkin, or desk/computer basket. Learn the Reverse Ti-Twine technique, a dyed flat reed accent developing rows of diagonal lines. Photographed in medium green, with several color choices available. Dyed round reed Double Three Rod Wale serves as a border for the Ti-Twine accent. Emphasis is on shaping the basket to the flat top notched grip handle. Finish with the cane cable stitch rim border.
